Founded in Brooklyn, NY in 2016, Magpie Dry Goods is an accessory design company. Our initial campaign focuses on everyday bags including backpacks, messenger bags, handbags, and totes made from cotton canvases and vegetable tanned leathers. all of the materials we use are the highest quality and constructed with care and respect to both our artisans and the environment.
All of our products are designed with what we consider Urban Practicality. We understand that a bag first and foremost must be functional. The placement of zippers, straps and pockets are carefully considered when each new product is created. While functionality is a must, we also understand that a bag is an extension of a carefully considered look and is as important as the clothes we wear.
Magpie is a family owned and operated company located in Brooklyn New York. creative director, Jessica has a long history of creative endeavors as a illustrator, photographer, and architect. She decided to start Magpie after becoming frustrated when she couldn’t find a backpack that was both functional and fit with her personal style.Jessica has spent her life engaged in creative ventures. After graduating from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU she worked as the Director of Bookings at Milk Studios for five years. When life brought her to Boston, Jessica decided to explore a lifelong interest in architecture and received her Masters of Architecture (M.Arch) from Boston Architectural College. While in school, she took a position as Director of Marketing at Patrick Ahearn Architect. Ever the creative chameleon, Jessica’s exposure to architecture and marketing fueled her interest in product design. The seed of the idea that would eventually become Magpie grew over the years as Jessica and her husband Kevin had a family and moved back to Brooklyn.
Back in Brooklyn, Jessica explored one more avenue of creativity and became an illustrator. The idea that was planted back in Boston began to grow when Jessica realized product design was a great way to combine all her creative passions. Kevin left a career in education to become a stay-at-home dad when their son was born in 2012. Together Jessica and Kevin are working to create a company selling quality products, responsibly made, inspired by the city we live in, the places we travel to, the people we meet and the beauty of our planet.
